Totem at the Royal Albert Hall
Those looking for things to do in London in the New Year should try the Cirque Du Soleil's Totem at the Royal Albert Hall.
Cirque du Soleil's brand new touring show provides a captivating journey into the evolution of mankind: from its original amphibian state to its desire to fly.
Totem is inspired by founding myths and uses visual and acrobatic language to illustrate the progress of humanity.
Described as "somewhere between science and legend", the show, which runs from January 6th through to February 17th, also explores the bonds between humans and other species, the dreams of mankind and its unlimited potential.
The characters evolve before the eyes of the audience, eventually evoking a giant turtle - the symbol of origin for many civilisations in the ancient world.
One other attraction at the Royal Albert Hall is Mikhail Gorbachev's 80th birthday celebration on March 30th, which will celebrate the life of the Novel Peace Prize winner.

Following on from the highly successful ignite concerts in the Hall's Cafe concert and the Family ignite acts in the Elgar Room, Learning & Participation are proud to announce the release of Junior ignite in spring 2011! Learning & Participation will be working with Music for Youth to recognize young talented musicians from around London and the south of England and give them a unique performance opportunity at the Royal Albert Hall.

As part of National Science & Engineering Week, Y Touring Theatre Company will be performingMind The Gap. (A play about mental illness and neuroscience). The performance will be followed by a live debate with a leading scientist. This play will be appropriate for KS3, KS4 and post 16 students.

Queen Victoria signs the Royal Charter under which the hall is operated. A 999-year lease on the site was acquired at one shilling (five pence) per year. |

Introduction To Royal Albert Hall
Albert Hall that is situated at Kensington road was opened in May, 1871. It is a big building of oval form in the style of the Italian revitalization, the materials of the concealment being entirely red brick and terra-cotta. The larger external diameter is 272 ft., interior 219 ft.; the less significant exterior 238 ft., interior 185 ft. The wall painting above the balcony was executed by Messrs. Minton, Hollins & Co., and is separated into compartments consists of allegorical designs by Messrs. Armitage, Armstead, Horsley, Marks, Pickersgill, Poynter, and Yeames. There are two box entrances -- on the east and west -- with a private doorway from the Horticultural Society's Gardens on the south side, and separate entrances on either side for the balcony, the gallery, and the area, and for the platforms on either side of the great organ. Gwent youngsters set to play at Royal Albert Hall
Gwent Music Support Service looking to explore the Welsh heritage and identity of the area and uses around 800 musicians and choristers from schools and music groups.
They will be spread into a number of ensembles around the hall performing several parts of the piece's four movements and coming together for an explosive last movement.
he work involves a choir of 550, made up of pupils from primary and secondary schools in Newport, Cwmbran, Ebbw Vale, Tredegar, Raglan, Caldicot, Caerleon, Rogerstone and Pontypool, and members of Greater Youth and Torfaen Music Centre Gospel Choirs.
Eighty trumpeters and 40 trombonists will also perform, along with African drummers, percussionists, timpanists, a Celtic band, the Great Gwent Cello and Bass Ensemble, harpists, flautists, clarinettists, and alto and soprano saxophonists.
The piece will also make use of the Royal Albert Hall organ.
